Asbestos saw a boom between the years 1930 and 1980. This pompousness about the material in real estate circles was not only in the UK but the situation was the same throughout Europe.
Why was Asbestos so popular in the first place?
There were two main reasons for the popularity of asbestos and its extensive usage in building walls, floor tiles, boilers, flues or pipes and even attic.
- Thermal insulation
- Fire retardant nature of the material.
However, the asbestos popularity soon died. Doctors and researchers found horrific impact of asbestos fibers on health. Some effects were fast whereas others were slow but gradual.
Medical research and later the large number of people who suffered showed the dark side of asbestos. Asbestos leads to life threatening diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and even heart attack. The substance led to the death of many people.
The matter became so serious that the UK government had to put a ban on the use of asbestos altogether. So, beyond 1990, asbestos cannot be used legally.
So, how you see asbestos today can impact your health and wellbeing tomorrow.
We highly advise you to stick with the regulations of the government. Because this is not just a matter of law abiding but of the health and wellbeing of your neighbors, and your family.
However, what if your house or office building is old and you want to demolish or rebuild it and it already has asbestos used in different parts of it.
It is highly advised to take this matter seriously and don’t proceed with asbestos removal yourself. This is a matter of your health and one wrong step can harm your health.
But, you should not worry either. If you hire a licensed and experienced contractor to do asbestos removal for you, things can go pretty smoothly.
